Iosim Input: GSCW: February 1st, 2002

Golden State Championship Wrestling
looks to be the most consistent indy fed in all of SoCal at the
moment. After the December show, and the amount of people who
were there, I was sure that this show would be completely sold
out for many reasons. 1) It wasn't the holiday time, so more people
were in town. 2) Lots of people from NoCal were expected to come
3) Sabu, Messiah, and B-boy were on this particular card. In fact
the only wresters who come to mind that were at the last show,
and not at this one were Rising Son, Taro, and Super Dragon. Well,
the draw was almost identical, pretty much everyone had a seat
and
about a dozen people were standing up
that's basically how
I estimate the draw, as inaccurate as it is.
From the get go, the NoCal/SoCal
rivalry emerged. Supa Bad came out to kill time, as he was cheered
on by the socal fans into doing push ups. I really didn't expect
this NoCal feud to be anything more but a booking one, in that
GSCW would pit Socal Wrestlers vs. NoCal ones. The constant jeering
between the two sides along with the promos, the angles, and the
actual matches
the feud is looking good to say the less.
Not good enough for me to drive 8 hours to a garage, but a good
feud.
Infernal, Zokre, & Chippy over
Phoenix Star, Scorpio Sky, & Silver Tyger [11'57]
I feel kinda dumb cause I was calling Zokre "Zorke"
all the time, but I have learned and moves on. Well Zokre was
clearly the best wrestlers on his team, and it showed every time
he was in the ring. The sequences with Silver Tiger/Zokre were
the best, as they have been for the past 2 Rev Pro and GSCW shows.
The match was quick paced and definitely entertaining. The amount
of good wrestlers in socal are expanding, and where as a year
ago we would be seeing the old rev pro class in the opener
these
men for the most part have taken that spot, and wrestlers like
Excitement, Excalibur, and Disco Machine have all propelled themselves
Brawlin Bo Cooper over Joey Ryan
by DQ [6'13]
Easily the worst Joey Ryan match I've ever seen. Joey Ryan usually
is very fun to watch and puts on a solid match every night. I
suppose its not really his fault, BBC is pretty bad, slow, and
boring to watch. I don't see why they would book Joey Ryan against
him. Joey Ryan got pissed halfway through the match and hammered
BBC with chair shots that led to a Bleeding Bo Cooper. Next time
Joey
next time
Frankie Kazarian over Mr. Excitement
[9'48]
Nothing special at all here. The heat was the mediocre with the
same "This isn't very exciting" comments galore. The
match itself was what you would expect, the modified superlplex(Spanish
Fly) for the win was good and got great hang time. Kazarian was
announced as straight off of his European tour. Excitement really
hasn't gone anything really good at Rev J, the match against Son
at the last Rev Pro show was a disaster
this was a lot better,
but still lacking
Al Katrazz and Steve Rizzano go
to no contest [6'04]
The match started out with Steve unbuttoning Al's prison shirt
to slap him. The match didn't go up or downhill from there. This
was kind of a weird SoCal/Nocal match because Steve started up
north, but became "known" via XPW here. Al Katrazz is
a Socal wrestler, but isn't the prison right off the San Francisco
bay
oh well
Nikki & Melissa over Disco Machine
& Looney Lane [11'53]
After this match being teased through not one, but two segments
it
finally happened. The match had a lot of heat, I think Disco got
the loudest pop of the entire night just for slapping a chick
really hard. The matches best spots were all chicks getting hurt
badly, so it does make me question the ethics involved in a good
match. Disco Machine ran out of the Legion Hall to get his hands
on Screech/Corey Matthews or whoever that little kid is, leaving
Looney in the ring by herself and consequently losing. Score 1
for NoCal
Scott Lost over Lil' Cholo by countout.
Lil' Cholo retains the GSCW Lightweight title. [10'05]
Yeah well, to me the match looked better when Cholo was on the
offensive, he hit his moves a lot cleaner. Again, I don't understand
why anyone would think they can get a title win over a countout,
and I cant believe that's being worked into an angle. Other then
that, we have a ladder match to see at the next show
that
should be interesting to say the least.
Bobby Quance over Excalibur [11'50]
Easily the most anticipated match on the card, but didn't live
up to it. It was a good match, don't get me wrong
I just
sincerely think it was a much lower version of Super Dragon/Bobby
Quance from the last show. The matwork in the beginning was good,
but I thought lasted too much of the match. The finish was good,
but kinda predictable. We didn't get to see the springboard moonsault,
or anything really outrageous this time
but it was a solid
match nonetheless
B-Boy over Jardi Frantz [12'16]
My pick for best match on the card, and probably most peoples
after reading posts and reviews. As cliché as it sounds,
B-boy did prove why he was wrestler of the year attached to his
name for the remaining 11 months. He wrestled a great match against
Jardi Frantz, that is probably match of the month and consequently
the standing match of the year
even if it did happen on the
first day. The only bad thing I saw about the match was that Jardi
didn't get to hit B0boy nearly as hard as B-boy did him, the greatest
spots of the match were all B-boy strikes
and were very sick.
Nothing tops that baseball slide into the corner on B-boy or Jardi
at the last EPIC show though. Hopefully B-boy will get good opponents
more or less consistently like Super Dragon did last year.
Hardkore Kidd over Dynamite D [5'36]
Dynamite D yelled in Hardkore Kidd's face like 5 times "I'm
Retired" and still wrestled. Thank God it wasn't a long match.
I definitely think this was one of HKK's better matches due to
its length. HKK is a good heel, in that he manages to have everyone
hate his guts. El Jefe is a show stealer in this one
Sabu over Messiah [8'29]
Worse then all 4 EPIC Sabu matches, Sabu hit very little of his
signature moves cleanly
and just didn't look motivated tonight.
With the amount of popularity Messiah has in both SoCal and the
East Coast, he didn't at all play the crowd to his advantage.
This easily could have been a very intense match for chants
but
wasn't. Table broke early
nothing new here. I kinda wish
Messiah won, I don't see the purpose of putting Sabu over when
he's the lesser of the fan favorite, and they are both fly ins.
All in all, I've been impressed
with GSCW's last two shows a lot. They have my name down for the
next one. The NoCal fans got really into the begging half of the
show, but considerably died down. Hopefully they can bring the
heat for the next show. As Scrub said, the drunk army vet and
dropkick guy were pretty funny. I heard someone got punched by
Sabu after the show
hopefully it was that dumbass SabuFan316.
Steve Rizziano was the ultimate shut down for NoCal fans as he
was introduce to represent NoCal. The most surprising match was
easily the women's/Disco tag
it got insane heat, you could
see all the wrestlers looking down from that window on the second
floor. Looks like Bobby vs. B-Boy for the next show, which will
probably be awesome, the Scott Lost vs. Cholo ladder match should
be interesting, I hope Super Dragon is back
he easily will
put a guaranteed great match into the card
and what not
that's
my input.
